Considering Lefevere's approach, which aligns with the now widely accepted view in modern Translation Studies that translations and rewritings can sustain or even revitalize a text, this paper examines a series of pictorial translations of Giovan Battista Basile's Tale of Tales. Beginning with the first illustrated Italian edition from the 18th century and moving through visual translations in England and Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries, the essay culminates in an exploration of the most recent and prestigious visual reinterpretation of five tales from the Cunto. This edition, published by Treccani in a multilingual format, is enhanced by illustrations from artists of five different nationalities, all prominent figures in contemporary art: AES+F, Markus Lüpertz, Mimmo Paladino, Kiki Smith, and Miquel Barceló.

Abstract
Considering Lefevere's approach, which aligns with the now widely accepted view in modern Translation Studies that translations and rewritings can sustain or even revitalize a text, this paper examines a series of pictorial translations of Giovan Battista Basile's Tale of Tales. Beginning with the first illustrated Italian edition from the 18th century and moving through visual translations in England and Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries, the essay culminates in an exploration of the most recent and prestigious visual reinterpretation of five tales from the Cunto. This edition, published by Treccani in a multilingual format, is enhanced by illustrations from artists of five different nationalities, all prominent figures in contemporary art: AES+F, Markus Lüpertz, Mimmo Paladino, Kiki Smith, and Miquel Barceló.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
