This entry is concerned with the transfer of communication data from one medium to another (i.e. from speech and/or signing to writing). Starting from the assumption that transcription is always theory-laden, being the result of interpretive choices (i.e. what to transcribe) and representational ones (i.e. how to transcribe), we first outline the main transcription choices and methods. We then introduce some specially developped tools that allow the transcript to be linked to the (digital) recording, giving instant access from the secondary to the primary data source, and vice versa.

Abstract
This entry is concerned with the transfer of communication data from one medium to another (i.e. from speech and/or signing to writing). Starting from the assumption that transcription is always theory-laden, being the result of interpretive choices (i.e. what to transcribe) and representational ones (i.e. how to transcribe), we first outline the main transcription choices and methods. We then introduce some specially developped tools that allow the transcript to be linked to the (digital) recording, giving instant access from the secondary to the primary data source, and vice versa.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
