The subject of this essay is an attempt to reconstruct the forma urbis of Pistoia and outline what its topographic layout must have been in Roman times. A review of Wndings from archaeological excavations, a deep reading of the literary, epigraphic sources and earlier archaeological literature as well as an analysis of the city and its monuments have led to the development of a series of assumptions on the forma urbis of Pistoia. This investigation tried therefore to highlight the strategic signiWcance assumed by this city and its resulting development during that historic age of Italy in which it fell completely under Rome’s influence.

Abstract
The subject of this essay is an attempt to reconstruct the forma urbis of Pistoia and outline what its topographic layout must have been in Roman times. A review of Wndings from archaeological excavations, a deep reading of the literary, epigraphic sources and earlier archaeological literature as well as an analysis of the city and its monuments have led to the development of a series of assumptions on the forma urbis of Pistoia. This investigation tried therefore to highlight the strategic signiWcance assumed by this city and its resulting development during that historic age of Italy in which it fell completely under Rome’s influence.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
