In this paper, I shall analyse a corpus of arbitration awards comprising 13 awards drafted in French and issued by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) of Paris, between 1984 and 2003. My purpose is to investigate some pragmatic aspects framing the French arbitration award, namely how performativity and deontic modality are expressed in these texts.
