The ASAMI Study included 606 pts, enrolled between November 1990 and December 1996: 245 pts with a previous cerebral embolic attack and normal carotid study (Group A) and acontrol group (B) of 316 pts. They all underwent transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography.TEE showed Atrial Septal Aneurysm (ASA) in 104 pts; 68 pts (27.7%) were from group A and 36 (9.9%) from group B (p<0.001).
