The importance of pathological characters in influencing gastric ulcer healing and relapse is mostly unknown. In this study 125 patients with endoscopic diagnosis of gastric ulcer were followed in order to investigate if any of the pathological characters of the perilesional mucosa could influence the healing and relapse processes. The little size and the pyloric site of the gastric ulcer seemed to be significantly associated with a better healing, as well as the presence of regenerative hyperplasia in the surrounding mucosa. None of the investigated characters proved to have an influence on the recurrence process.
