Abstract

Over the last few years, there has been a considerable increase in the activities of the supply side of the entertainment industry, the competitiveness of which has been heightened by new content distribution strategies. The film industry has been no exception to this process and cinema owners now find themselves challenged by the spread of multi-screen cinemas. In this paper we investigate whether the opening of a new multiplex is sustainable in a specific geographical area and then analyse the effect of the competition between an incumbent multiplex and a variable number of newcomers.
