This paper aims at improving the image of mathematics and therefore presents a survey of important problems and conjectures that have occupied mathematicians for a long time and in some cases are still open. Our goal is more precisely to: ;) show the liveliness of mathematical research; ii) give an idea of the path that has brought it to today's standard; iii) show how mathematics can be useful even when it deals with questions that have arisen within it.
