Radiometers are widely employed on satellite/aircraft installations for remote sensing of the earth. Furthermore, they have also been recently employed as passive devices which, by measuring the radiation intensity from electromagnetic signals, can detect thermal emissions of real bodies. Thus, passive radiometers operating in the microwave range have started to be used also for fire monitoring and detection.

Abstract

Radiometers are widely employed on satellite/aircraft installations for remote sensing of the earth. Furthermore, they have also been recently employed as passive devices which, by measuring the radiation intensity from electromagnetic signals, can detect thermal emissions of real bodies. Thus, passive radiometers operating in the microwave range have started to be used also for fire monitoring and detection.
