Distance learning courses are an important way of meeting society's needs for more flexible ways of educating and training a modern work force. Supporting students at a distance raises new and interesting questions. Of particular interest to the TEEODE project were the methods of assessment and evaluation employed by the various providers of distance learning courses. The aim of the TEEODE project was to develop a representative survey of the models of assessment an evaluation used by institutions supporting distance learning. This survey endeavoured to cover all fifteen members of the European Union. The specific chapter presents the findings of the survey TEEODE, with reference to the nature and use of the ODE (Open and Distance Education) evaluation tools.The CD-ROM contains translations of the text in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish as well as the English text. In addiction it carries the prototype software tools developed to help in Assessment and Evaluation.
