The Beam Propagation Method (BPM) has been extensivelyemployed to study the properties of various guided wave optic structures such as optical fibers and integrated optical waveguides.In these photonic devices anisotropic materials are often used as guiding media so that full vectorial BPMs result mandatory in order to perform a reliable electromagnetic analysis.In this work, for the first time to author's knowledge, a full-vectorial beam propagation method based on the Finite Elements (FE-VBPM) has been developed for three dimensional optical waveguides with anisotropic materials.
