This paper describes the properites of a cell-based assay for the detection and quantification of yessotoxin-group toxins contaminating shellfish extracts. The procedure exploits the property of yessotoxin to induce the accumulation of a 100 kDa fragment of E-cadherin in epithelial cells. The dose-dependence of this response is used for quntification of contaminating agents in relevant extracts.
