During his permanence in Modena (from 1929 to 1935), Emilio Chiovenda was Professor at the University, dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Director of Botanic Garden, collaborator and President of the Società dei Naturalisti e Matematici di Modena (from 1933 to 1935), and member of the Accademia di Scienze, Lettere e Arti since 1931. The numerous activities undertaken give a complete idea of Chiovenda’s works during the time he lived in Modena. Besides giving important spur to scientific prestige of Botanical Garden of Modena through his publications, Chiovenda considerably increased the museum collections. Numerous specimens coming from Italian colonies - exsiccata, woods and fruits - (in many cases types), identified by him, became a part of the historical collection of Modena’s Botanic Gardens Herbarium.

Abstract
