The ability to understand ambiguous idiom was assessed inaphasic patients with preserved comprehension at a singleword level. A string-to-word matching task was used inwhich patients were requested to choose one among fouralternatives: a word associated with the figurative meaningof the idiom string; a word semantically associate with thelast constituent of the idiom string; and two unrelatedwords.
