We report two experiments which investigated the timecourse of spoken idiom comprehension. We also assessedwhether differences in individual speed of processingspecifically affected idiom meaning activation. Using across-modal lexical decision paradigm, we found activationof ambiguous idioms meaning at offset for idioms identifiedearly in the string (early identification idioms) and at offset(late identification idioms) in fast and slow participants. Thetwo groups instead differed in the amount of time requiredfor activating the idiomatic meaning.

Abstract
We report two experiments which investigated the timecourse of spoken idiom comprehension. We also assessedwhether differences in individual speed of processingspecifically affected idiom meaning activation. Using across-modal lexical decision paradigm, we found activationof ambiguous idioms meaning at offset for idioms identifiedearly in the string (early identification idioms) and at offset(late identification idioms) in fast and slow participants. Thetwo groups instead differed in the amount of time requiredfor activating the idiomatic meaning.Pubblicazioni consigliate
