This contribution analyses the diffusion of atypical work in Italy. It shows the increase in the incidence of flexible work on employment and devotes particular attention to part-time workers and parasubordinates employment conditions and diffusion. A special focus is also devoted to the extent of temporary work and underemployment. Regional heterogeneity in the distribution of parasubordinate employment is also accounted for. Gender differences in the incidence of the different types of atypical employment and inequalities in earnings distribution, job satisfaction and career perspectives are also outlined.
