The project was interdisciplinary in that it considered not just the acquisition of IT skills by the staff and students taking part, but also the promotion of critical analysis on the part of the students, with an emphasis on the identification of the sources and an independent assessment of the quality of the information. The work was part of the FIRST project funded by Fondazione Carisbo, and organised by CILTA, the Bologna University Language Centre, in collaboration with high schools in the province of Bologna. The companies whose websites were examined using the model of appraisal all operate on global markets and are all based in Italy, reflecting the underlying concept, Think global, act local.
