This paper describes how to evaluate exactly in arecursive manner the Jones transfer matrix of a fiber for anyorder of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and derives for ita second-order accurate analytical approximation. The secondorderapproximation is then compared against the exact result aswell as with other models found in the literature.

Abstract

This paper describes how to evaluate exactly in arecursive manner the Jones transfer matrix of a fiber for anyorder of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and derives for ita second-order accurate analytical approximation. The secondorderapproximation is then compared against the exact result aswell as with other models found in the literature.
