In this paper, we present estimates on household poverty in a rich area of Italy. The estimates are computed form the micro data of ICESmo, a new survey on economic and social conditions of households living in the province of Modena. Compared to national averages, the distribution of income in this area is characterised by a particularly high level of family income and low levels of inequality. We find that household poverty is much lower, even when it is measured with a local poverty line, but it is concentrated in particular household typologies, different from those usually found at the national level. This evidence poses interesting questions and priorities for local welfare policies.

Abstract
In this paper, we present estimates on household poverty in a rich area of Italy. The estimates are computed form the micro data of ICESmo, a new survey on economic and social conditions of households living in the province of Modena. Compared to national averages, the distribution of income in this area is characterised by a particularly high level of family income and low levels of inequality. We find that household poverty is much lower, even when it is measured with a local poverty line, but it is concentrated in particular household typologies, different from those usually found at the national level. This evidence poses interesting questions and priorities for local welfare policies.Pubblicazioni consigliate
