Soil moisture measurements have been collected during the Mesoscale Alpine Programme (MAP) in the alpine area of the Ticino-Toce watershed. The data range on a quite wide time span (April-November 1999) and concern the first 70 cm soil layer. The data allow studying the influence of soil moisture on the evaporation fluxes (owing to its effect on the surface albedo and on the partitioning between sensible and latent heat fluxes) and the influence of soil moisture conditions on the runoff due to heavy precipitation.Starting from the measured soil moisture profiles, the one dimensional flow equation has been treated with suitable initial and boundary conditions; analytical and numerical solutions have been obtained; examples of solutions matching some aspects of the experimental data will be presented.

Abstract
Soil moisture measurements have been collected during the Mesoscale Alpine Programme (MAP) in the alpine area of the Ticino-Toce watershed. The data range on a quite wide time span (April-November 1999) and concern the first 70 cm soil layer. The data allow studying the influence of soil moisture on the evaporation fluxes (owing to its effect on the surface albedo and on the partitioning between sensible and latent heat fluxes) and the influence of soil moisture conditions on the runoff due to heavy precipitation.Starting from the measured soil moisture profiles, the one dimensional flow equation has been treated with suitable initial and boundary conditions; analytical and numerical solutions have been obtained; examples of solutions matching some aspects of the experimental data will be presented.Pubblicazioni consigliate
