Fattore religioso e sanità in Italia nella prospettiva delle Chiese cattolica e valdese e dell’Unione delle Comunità ebraiche italiane (1848-2019)

This doctoral thesis—by drawing on the history of ecclesiastical and healthcare law and the history of medicine and healthcare—collects and analyzes historical and legal sources, reconstructing the claims of three Italian religious denominations regarding the exercise of the right to religious freedom (understood in the context of carrying out their mission) in healthcare and hospital settings, as well as the changing relationships between secular and religious institutions in this regard from 1848 to 2019. The religious institutions or ecclesiastical bodies examined represent three religious denominations historically organized or recognized in Italy since its unification: the Catholic Church, the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, and the Waldensian Evangelical Church.

Il lavoro di dottorato è una ricerca che – incrociando gli sguardi della storia del diritto ecclesiastico e sanitario e della storia della medicina e della sanità– raccoglie e analizza le fonti storiche e giuridiche ricostruendo le istanze di tre confessioni religiose italiane in materia di esercizio del diritto di libertà religiosa (intesa nella prospettiva dello svolgimento della propria missione) in ambito sanitario e ospedaliero, così come il mutamento nei rapporti tra istituzioni secolari e religiose a questo riguardo dal 1848 al 2019. Le istituzioni religiose o enti ecclesiastici prese in esame rappresentano tre confessioni religiose storicamente organizzate o riconosciute in Italia dalla sua unificazione: la Chiesa Cattolica, l’Unione delle Comunità ebraiche italiane e la Chiesa Evangelica Valdese.
