In this paper, the derivation of the globally optimal efficiency map, and of the corresponding globally optimal speed and torque maps of the power sources, is addressed for a class of hybrid and full electric vehicles. The problem is formulated and solved using two algorithms for two case studies, accounting for the power sources efficiency maps and for the gears dissipation. The considered case studies for the derivation of the globally optimal efficiency maps are: the recharge of the energy storage system in a series hybrid electric vehicle, and a power-split full electric vehicle equipped with a single-stage planetary gear set.

Abstract

In this paper, the derivation of the globally optimal efficiency map, and of the corresponding globally optimal speed and torque maps of the power sources, is addressed for a class of hybrid and full electric vehicles. The problem is formulated and solved using two algorithms for two case studies, accounting for the power sources efficiency maps and for the gears dissipation. The considered case studies for the derivation of the globally optimal efficiency maps are: the recharge of the energy storage system in a series hybrid electric vehicle, and a power-split full electric vehicle equipped with a single-stage planetary gear set.
