The creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) was a real turning point in international relations, since it not only finally institutionalized international trade relations, but also made the rights and duties of States more explicit, and is no longer allowed the parties to choose the rules with which they would like to be bound, in addition to having a very effective sanctioning system. Brazil, considered a key country in international trade relations, particularly for its role in the agricultural sector, has been a member since its consolidation. Today, the country presents China as its biggest trading partner – a nation that joined the WTO just six years after it was fully operational, in 2001. The relations between the two States, despite being expanded over the years, have not always been peaceful and harmonious within the scope of this Organization. And it is specifically in this relationship that this text will focus. To this end, initially a historical-descriptive study about the beginnings of the commercial relationship between the countries is proposed, taking as an initial time-frame the building of the international commercial system at the end of the Second World War until today's relations, particularly from China's entrance in the WTO. Secondly, aiming to debate the current relationship between Brazil and China, especially in relation to the contemporary disagreements between the two nations within the scope of the WTO, a jurisprudential analysis of the Organization's Dispute Settlement Body is proposed, examining notably chicken and sugar disputes. With this, we hope to prove the existence of a litigious pattern between the States in the scope of international trade, which marks the relations between the two nations, without, however, generating harmful consequences in other fields.
