The sociological theory of childhood allows the introduction of an approach which is based on social constructivism and communication theory. This approach has beeen tested in a research project about infant schools in Italy, featuring interviews with teachers and vieotaped interactions in che schools. This research concerned on the one hand the construction of childhood and its social context, educational values, programmes and roles among the teachers, on the other hand the forms of communication between teachers and pupils. The differences between forms of education are higlighted by this research.
