This article focuses on current theoretical contributions related to the use of authentic material in second language classes, in general, and Spanish, in particular. From a theoretical point of view, the neuroscientific aspects that support the learning of Spanish as a second language through the use of songs for educational purposes are addressed. From a practical point of view, the main objective of this work is to design an innovative didactic proposal that favors the development and skills of students of beginner level (A1/A2) through the song Desapariciones (1983) by Panamanian singer-songwriter Rubén Blades. In addition, the proposal adheres to the update of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, evaluation (2018) as well as its Complementary Volume (2021).
