This essay explores the history of the Greek word "exodos", examining its various uses, meanings, and semantic developments from classical Greek literature to early Christianity. Particular attention is given to the meaning of “exodos” as the “departure of a people,” which seems not to be attested in non-biblical texts and originates in the Septuagint, where it is used in specific passages to denote the departure of the people of Israel from Egypt.
