Abstract
Michele Lodone, Translation, censorship, rewriting: on the fortune of P. Vergil’s De rerum inventoribus Polydore Vergil’s De rerum inventoribus was an exstraordinary succesful work. Books 4 to 8 – de inventoribus rei christianae – attracted the attention both from the Catholic side and the Reformation one. After reviewing the mixed editorial fortune of the treatise, the article will focus on four specific topics (the origin of clerical celibacy, the problem of the dishonest collection of alms by the mendicant orders, the mass liturgy, the act of kissing Roman pope’s feet), read and rewritten through different perspectives: the Catholic censors’ one, the anglican translator, i.e. T.
