This article addresses the issue of the translation of Russian children’s literature in Italy. In the first part, a brief history of the publication in Italy of Russian works for children is outlined, highlighting, on the one hand, the constant increase in interest in this genre, especially since the second half of the 20th century, on the other the scarce presence of Russian works compared to other foreign literatures for children. The second part summarizes the main theoretical issues concerning the translation of children’s literature, in particular from Russian into Italian, placing the assumptions of Translation Studies in dialogue with the linguistic research developed in the field of translatology. The third part shows some examples of translation from Russian into Italian of poetry for children with particular attention to formal aspects (rhyme, meter, rhythm) and to the iconic language.
