Alienation is generally considered a sign of defective agency and a threat to coordination. In Sections 13.1 and 13.2, I have argued that the latter claim is based on the widespread view that collective agency arises by adding to or augmenting normative self-governance. In Sections 13.3–13.6, I have shown that some modes of alienation serve as coordinative mechanisms, which bypass individual commitment and intention. In Sections 13.7 and 13.8, I have pointed to cases of macro-actions that build upon radical alienation. In Section 13.9, I have offered some preliminary considerations about individual responsibility in massively shared action, focusing on the moral impact of delegation
