This paper will focus on the relation between the two Spanish-Italian glossaries by Alfonso de Ulloa (both Venice, 1553), regarded as the first ones for these two languages, and the Vocabulario hispano-latino by Antonio de Nebrija. Both glossaries have a didactic function, as they serve as paratext for two important literary works which they are based upon: Tragicomedia de Calisto e Melibea and Orlando Furioso, translated by Jerónimo de Urrea (1549). The glossaries’ lexical selection focuses on those words that seem obscure because of a lack of similarity with their Italian equivalent. The two works were printed in the same days, which suggests a parallel workout. A comparison-contrast will be carried out. Furthermore, their debt toward Nebrija’s work will be analyzed through the following characteristics: entries’ order, lexical selection, lack of encyclopaedyc explanations (especially in the glossary based on Celestina), and the Latin – as well as Greek – translation for some words.

Abstract
Furthermore, their debt toward Nebrija’s work will be analyzed through the following characteristics: entries’ order, lexical selection, lack of encyclopaedyc explanations (especially in the glossary based on Celestina), and the Latin – as well as Greek – translation for some words.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
