This essay proposes an interpretation of the political goals pursued during the Martinozzi regency on the basis of the most significant laws enacted in those years, also thanks to the contribution of Bar- tolomeo Gatti, who was secretary of state and important jurist. A clear anti-feudal policy comes to light, with an aim both to restore an ac- ceptable level of public order in mediatized territories and put them under governmental control.
