The analysis of the subgrid energy transfer which is traditionally accomplished with the turbulent kinetic energy , and with the energy spectrum , is performed by a scale energy balance. A generalized Kolmogorov equation for filtered velocity field will be applied and discussed. The results will show which are the effects of subgrid scales on the resolved motion in both physical and scale space, singling out the prominent role of the filter scale compared to the cross-over scale between production dominated scales and inertial range, lc, and the reverse energy cascade region ΩB.
