After focusing on the meaning of ‘rogatio per saturam’ and ‘lex satura’, the research tries to verify which laws of the republican age before the lex Caecilia Didia, which in 98 a.C. banned once and for all the practice of submitting bills per saturam, can be qualified as leges saturae. Among the measures analyzed, the leges Liciniae Sextiae, the lex Aquilia and the epigraphic law concerning eastern provinces occupy a special place. Other measures are also taken into account, but quite labile traces remain about them in the sources. It is not always possible to determine whether the single measures actually had the character of leges saturae. The conclusion that seems to be derived from the analysis is that in the period considered the leges saturae, heavily depreciated from the social and political point of view, were not very numerous.

Abstract
The conclusion that seems to be derived from the analysis is that in the period considered the leges saturae, heavily depreciated from the social and political point of view, were not very numerous.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
