The current chapter relates closely to the literature on inward FDI spillovers as well as that on transition/emergong economies. It also contributes to the literature in several ways. First, we include service sector firms in addition to manufacturing firms. Second, we use the input–output table to study the vertical spillover effects of FDI; that is, spillover effects of FDI in upstream and downstream industries in addition to spillovers to the firms in the same industry, or horizontal spillovers. Third, we explore the effects of mode of entry and ownership structure on productivity of foreign firms.
