Purpose:Extensive Macular Atrophy with Pseudo-drusen like appearance (EMAP) is a newly described clinical entity. The etiology in EMAP is still unknown. We aimed to describe the characteristics of choroidal thickness in EMAP affected eyes. Methods:A total of 20 eyes of 10 patients with EMAP underwent spectral domain optical coherent tomography (SD-OCT) examination (Spectralis, Heidelberg, Germany). We retrospectively analyzed the images measuring central foveal choroidal thickness (CFCT) and compared them to 20 healthy eyes of an age and gender matched population (controls). Results:Mean CFCT was 124.55 microns (SD 48.7) in EMAP eyes versus 316.75 microns (SD 50.25) in healthy eyes (p <0.0005). Conclusions:In our study, choroidal thickness was significantly reduced in EMAP. This finding supports the hypothesis that choroidal atrophy may play a role in the development and/or evolution of EMAP.

Abstract
This finding supports the hypothesis that choroidal atrophy may play a role in the development and/or evolution of EMAP.Pubblicazioni consigliate
