This book presents the scientific outcomes of the series of meetings Staging Exhibit Display. Theories and Forms (University Iuav of Venice, 2022-24), a project promoted by the research group Bites. The project aimeds to scrutinize the forms and meanings of exhibition systems from the perspective of display. The seminars objective was to monitor and compare methodologies and active contributors within this crucial yet elusive field of contemporary debate. The primary goal has been to analyze the historical, ideological, and procedural values in exhibit display, fostering interaction among various disciplines. Alongside historical and theoretical disciplines—such as the history of art and exhibitions, history of architecture, history of design and fashion design, museology, social sciences, and aesthetic and semiotic philosophies—we aim to involve the fields of architectural practice and exhibit design. The book’s challenge lie in its role as a methodological contribution to exhibition and art history, a potential research model for the history and design of interiors and exhibits, and an opportunity to mutually reconsider disciplinary domains, thereby redefining content and interpretative systems. The issues to be debated encompass the material and immaterial values of display, conceived as a physical and intellectual space.
