The book deals with the most important activities in favour of children that have been implementd in Italian towns in the Nineties and the first years of the twentyfirst century, following the approval of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). After an introduction regarding the new culture and politics of childhood and the city, the book deals with innovation and efforts in building Italian cities that are friendly to children, analysing the good practices which encourage participation and education, observing their types, their meanings, their methods and their results. Finally it provides an assessment of the overall effectiveness of these practices and some guidelines for encouraging children's participation in urban environments.
