We present a real exhibition on instruments for perspective drawing (about 50 working models) together with the virtual catalogue. The exhibition has been staged twice: in Florence (Limonaia di Villa Strozzi, 2002) and Modena (Foro Boario, 2003). A demo version of the virtual catalogue has been shortlisted at the 8th Pirelli INTERNETional award. The design of instruments has been taken from ancient treatises: all the instruments from Dürer's Underweysung der Messung (1525) and from Barozzi's Le due regole della prospettiva pratica (1583) have been reconstructed, together with others designed by Cigoli, Niceron, Lambert, Desargues, De la Hire, Newton et al. We shall focus on the educational setting, comparing and contrasting the exploration of real and virtual copies, and discussing different kinds of animations (sketches, semirealistic and photorealistic ones) realized with different tools (Cabri, Java, Cinema4d).
