Dental extraction and other oral procedures can induce bacteremia; the significance , incidence and importance of this event in the pathogenesis of systematic disease are not fully understood. We have carried out a study in order to evaluate: the incidence of bacteremia following some oral procedures; the length of the event, the predominance and characteristics of the involved bacteria, its susceptibility to antibiotics, the effectiveness of pretreating patients with antiseptic and/or antibiotics.
