The goal of the following contribution is to enlighten the common thread of the reasons why two coeval research traditions having similar interests and acting in very close fields of work have never come to an integration. The first part of the paper is devoted to understand the historical reasons why cognitive psychology and the socio-technical approach never talked each other. In the second part the authors will argue that the reasons of such a reciprocal invisibility are not valid any more and that the time has come to make an alliance and look for an integration between the two approaches. In the conclusion we will claim that the degree of overlapping between the two approaches is already so high that only a game of roles can justify the reciprocal blindness.
