By using this method, [Cu6{(PhSiO2)6}2{(NC)Cu(tmpa)}4](PF6)4 was rationally designed by self-assembly of four {(NC)Cu(tmpa)}+ units around a robust hexacopper(II)-siloxanolate cage (tmpa = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine).
