The purpose of this study is to try to find out how Livy interpreted the events of the second part of 368 BC, which are inserted in the context of the events that led, in the next year, to the famous compromise (leges Liciniae Sextiae). These facts are narrated in Livius 6.39.1-2. Several different, almost antithetical interpretations have been provided about them by the scholars. After investigating the background and evaluating the various hypotheses formulated by scholars, the author concludes by proposing an interpretation according to which the second vote made in 368 BC in the plebeian assembly would not have been completed, since when Licinius and Sextius realized the unfavorable outcome of the vote that was looming, decided to block the voting procedure by motivating the intervention with the consideration that while the plebs was voting se-parately the individual proposals, they had intended to submit to the approval of the plebs all three issues jointly.
