Intensive research efforts have been focused on the Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) in order to determine the actual health conditions of induction machines. However, particular mechanical load conditions such as low frequency load torque oscillation have effects similar to rotor faults in the current spectrum and the result of diagnostic procedure may be ambiguous. A procedure based on the specific features of the current space vector in correspondence of load torque oscillation is proposed. By this way the MCSA is able to discern this kind of trouble from rotor faults and to quantify the unbalance. ©2010 IEEE.

Abstract

Intensive research efforts have been focused on the Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) in order to determine the actual health conditions of induction machines. However, particular mechanical load conditions such as low frequency load torque oscillation have effects similar to rotor faults in the current spectrum and the result of diagnostic procedure may be ambiguous. A procedure based on the specific features of the current space vector in correspondence of load torque oscillation is proposed. By this way the MCSA is able to discern this kind of trouble from rotor faults and to quantify the unbalance. ©2010 IEEE.
