The Spanish translation of A. F. Doni’Zucca (1551) was published just four months after the Italian editio princeps by the same printer; at that time the interest on books in the Spanish language or translated from Spanish was in fact very high in Venice. For this reason, it is quite rare that a translator remained anonymous, and particularly in this case, as he shows a strong personality, emerging from the pages of his dedication to G. A. Dovizi and from the translation itself; besides, a clear (and modern) idea of how to proceed springs out from his comments about translation. In this context, it is our pourpose to approach a portrait of this anonymous translator, following the traces that he left in the dedication and in part in the translation, but also collecting some extra-textual data, such as the identity of the abbot to which the text is dedicated. It will emerge the figure of a cultivated person, with a deep knowledge of the Holy Scripture and a strong sense of religion.
