In spite of its wide definition, most human capital (HC) measurement approaches only focus on monetary or achievement indicators. The present contribution proposes a different approach to measure the effectiveness of graduates’ HC at an individual level, which includes several aspects of the graduate’s job situation. Then, a set of educational investment choices is analysed in order to determine if, and to what extent, they can affect the effectiveness of graduates’ HC in the labour market.

Abstract

In spite of its wide definition, most human capital (HC) measurement approaches only focus on monetary or achievement indicators. The present contribution proposes a different approach to measure the effectiveness of graduates’ HC at an individual level, which includes several aspects of the graduate’s job situation. Then, a set of educational investment choices is analysed in order to determine if, and to what extent, they can affect the effectiveness of graduates’ HC in the labour market.
