In recent years, the field of social innovation has developed significantly. Examples of both spontaneous and planned initiatives of social innovation have become prominent features in many cities throughout Europe. This article aims at contributing to extant debate by discussing the role that relational patterns could play in sustaining social innovation. In doing so, it discusses what factors affect positively the relational conditions that could be conducive to breeding environments for social innovation.

Abstract
